As the Goldstone Deep Space Communication Array analyzes signals reflected from the furthest reaches of space, reflections of the spaces between each other are analyzed only 30 miles away in the Mojave Desert. Primordial ceremonies imbue the voids among us with fear, hope, submission, devotion, hate, and love—instilling these shared emotions into each of our beings. The universes worth charting are the ones that lay between each of us—yet we ever persist in scanning the forlorn stars.

The Technical

Originally published as the photography for “35º25’36”N 116º53’24”W Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex,” SOVO// Magazine, Issue 6: Structure. This series was shot in one night and a special thanks to the models and SOVO// Magazine crew is required for their tremendous efforts and pain. One thing I will never forget is watching a spontaneous nude dance party in the middle of the desert under the full moon, because no matter how much our feet hurt, how tired we were, or how much our backs ached, the power and mystique of the desert under the full moon awakened a desire to move with the rhythm of nature. Goldstone was shot with a Canon 1V, primarily with Kodak T-Max 3200, but two images used Fuji Acros 100. These images are all single exposures with no post production effects. It was lit with a mix of natural moonlight and speed lights. Goldstone was shot on location in the Rainbow Basin National Natural Landmark under the scrutiny of UFOs passing overhead.
